PBS Announces National Memorial Day Concert Website
Posted on May 7, 1998
From "Over There" to "Rosie the Riveter" to "The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B," visitors to the special website for PBS's holiday broadcast, the National Memorial Day Concert, will learn about -- and catch audio highlights of -- selected songs linked with major wars of this century. The Website for the concert, which this year airs on Sunday, May 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET (check local listings), can be accessed at http://www.pbs.org/memorialdayconcert.
Also featured on the site:
- - A look at the history of Memorial Day in America and "Taps," the melancholy bugle call that serves as the traditional salute to those who have fallen.
- - Information about the popular Washington, D.C.-based live holiday concert.
- Photographs of featured performers from this year's concert and images from last year's event.
- A list of resource organizations -- with hyperlinks to each site -- where visitors can link with other veterans, check on survivor benefits, share and cope with war-related experiences.
