New Web Soap Opera Starts March 29

Overboard, a new comic-book style weekly Web soap opera about young people dealing with substance abuse, hits the Web on March 29.

With sharp dialogue by author Eve Becker, and bold illustrations by comic book artist Dawud Anyabwile, OVERBOARD is a hip, on-target trip through the trials of adolescence. Overboard will be online at wNetStation and PBS Online. Each week for 13 weeks, a new issue will be posted. Readers will be able to review past issues in an archive for three years.

Fans can also go into the bedrooms of the characters, to glimpse what they're thinking and discover clues about where they're headed. Facts hotlinked from the dialogue boxes give information about cigarettes, alcohol and other drugs in an on-screen window. A bulletin board will allow readers to discuss the story, characters and substance abuse issues.

Overboard also includes BackCover Comix, where viewers can read real-life stories from middle school students from around the country. Thirteen stories have been chosen to appear, one a week, each illustrated by a different professional comic-book illustrator.
