College Life Focus of Wolfe Novel

Posted on November 9, 2004

Reviews for Tom Wolfe's latest novel, I Am Charlotte Simmons (Farrar, Straus & Giroux), have not been as good as his past reviews but that doesn't mean this book doesn't deserve a read. Wolfe traveled to some major colleges and universities to examine the lifestyle of today's college goers and what he found shocked him.

Discovering foul language, revealing dress code and hyper-sexually-active students the 73 year-old Wolfe was no doubt shocked at what he found. But Wolfe's perspective is always unique and some critics might be panning his book just because today's college student culture has already been discussed countless times in books, films and music.
