Books-A-Million Won't Stock Books Published by Amazon

Posted on February 5, 2012

Books-A-Million will not be carrying any Amazon titles in its stores. Publishers Weekly reports that a BAM executive confirmed it won't carry any Amazon published titles. Amazon partnered with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to have its books published in print form through the publisher's New Harvest imprint, but the two leading U.S. bricks-and-mortar booksellers are refusing to carry the books.

Barnes & Noble announced last week that it won't stock any titles from Amazon Publishing. Barnes & Noble blamed Amazon's push for exclusivity with certain publishers, agents and authors. Barnes & Noble said these exclusives have prevented it from offering certain ebooks to its customers.

Books-A-Million operates over 200 stores in the U.S. and Barnes & Noble has over 700 stores. This makes at least 900 stores where Amazon's books (published through New Harvest) will not be available.
