Simon and Schuster Launching New SF Imprint Called Simon451

Simon451 logo Simon & Schuster announced it will launch a new literary and speculative fiction imprint called Simon451. The name is an homage to Ray Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451. The imprint will publish science fiction, fantasy , apocalyptic, dystopian and supernatural fiction.

The new imprint will publish both print books and ebooks. It will focus on on ebook originals and digital-first titles. The imprint's editors will have to be nimble: the imprint will publish short stories and full length books. It will feature experienced and new authors, as well as branded series. The release makes it clear that a number of things are going to tried and what works will get major support. Serialized novels and backlist titles will also be featured.

It's all up to Senior Editor Sarah Knight, who is taking the lead on the new imprint. Here's what she had to say about the project: "Within the science fiction and fantasy genre, e-books and online communities are becoming the primary means of reading and discovery. With Simon451 we aim to give those readers what they want, when and how they want it."

First up at bat for the imprint is award-winning actress and now novelist, Gillian Anderson who is best known in the U.S. for playing skeptical FBI agent Dana Scully to David Duchovney's Fox Mulder. The first volume of Anderson and co-writer Jeff Rovin's EarthEnd Saga, A Vision of Fire, hits bookshelves in October 2014.

Gillian had this to say about her new series: "This is a very exciting endeavor, and I'm thrilled that Simon and Schuster has taken us under their wing. Together, we will make the most of what I hope will be a compelling series of adventures."

The new imprint is currently accepting submsisions. You can find the details here.
