The Knot Launches The Nest

Posted on May 19, 2006

The Knot Inc. is launching a new magazine this summer called The Nest. The Nest, an offshot of TheNest.com, is a lifestyle publication targeted at young married people. Here are some of the categories that The Nest plans to cover.

  • Major Purchases -- homes, cars, furniture, electronics and more
  • Home Decor -- room-by-room style, plus merging different tastes
  • Entertaining -- gourmets-in-training content with daily menus, entertaining tips, shopping lists and more
  • Finance -- budgeting, investing, and saving for couples, plus advice on marital money matters
  • Beauty, Health and Wellness -- healthy eating and fitness for time- starved couples
  • Travel -- weekend getaways, anniversary vacations and babymoons
  • Relationships -- making modern marriage work
  • The Knot CEO explains why they are targeting newlyweds.
"Newlyweds are an immense opportunity," said David Liu, CEO of The Knot, Inc. "Annually, they spend $174 billion on new home purchases, over $35 billion on their households, and are responsible for a $5 billion segment of the furniture industry. Eighty-two percent plan to merge bank accounts, 75% plan to redecorate, and, within three years, 65% will have their first baby. They are making more major purchase decisions in these years than they will at any other time in their lives."
The Nest will be delivered to 400,000 "select members of The Knot and TheNest.com" in July. There will be one other issue in 2006 -- a holiday issue in November. Then The Nest will increase to quarterly in 2007.
