Scholastic to Launch World of Warcraft Book Series for Kids Ages 8-12

Scholastic and Blizzard Entertainment have announced the launch of a book series for children based on the World of Warcraft game franchise. The series will be called World of Warcraft: Traveler. It will launch simultaneously in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada and New Zealand on November 2016.

The series is set in the land of Azeroth and features young Warcraft characters discovering the world and its mysteries. It will be written by comic author Greg Weisman. Weisman is also the author of two young adult novels: Rain of the Ghosts and Spirits of Ash and Foam. The first book with feature a full-color illustrated by Blizzard artist Stephane Bein and full-page sketches by Blizzard artist Samwise Didier.

There is a lot happening with Warcraft in addition the popular online game. There is also a major motion picture, Warcraft, coming out this summer.

Scholastic's Debra Dorfman says in a statement, "World of Warcraft is a captivating fantasy universe that lends itself to many imaginative and innovative storytelling possibilities. When Blizzard initially approached us about creating an original series for kids, we were not only intrigued but immediately mesmerized."

Chris Metzen, Senior Vice President of Story and Franchise Development at Blizzard Entertainment, says, "Greg Weisman is an accomplished writer who's really gotten to the heart and soul of Warcraft with the characters he's developed here-we're thrilled with the work he's done on World of Warcraft: Traveler."

Blizzard released the following video about the Traveler series. The protagonist of the story is twelve-year-old Aramar Thorne. He father, Captain Greydon Thorne, returns from years away at sea and takes Aramar with him aboard the Wavestrider. A teenage girl and second mate named Makasa is placed in charge of Aramar. When the ship is attacked by a band of vicious pirates Aramar's world is turned upside down. He and Mikasa explore Azeroth and encounter its strange creatures as they try and find the way home. The first novel is available for pre-order from Amazon.com. It shows a release date of 10-25-16. The cover art has not yet been released.
