All Books for Children Announces Holiday Goal
Posted on November 12, 1997
In the spirit of the holidays, nine companies have come together to enable the gift of one million new books to Boys & Girls Clubs of America members. The "book buy," entitled All Books for Children, begins November 12 and continues through December 24. The program provides a convenient and inexpensive way for any consumer to make a positive impact on a child's life with a $3.00 donation at any of the more than 1,400 Starbucks retail locations.
"Every participant in this project plays an integral role, including the public," says Howard Schultz, chairman and ceo of Seattle-based Starbucks Coffee Company, creator of the program. "Working together, we've forged a campaign to help more kids unlock their imaginations, increase their self-confidence and build the skills necessary for future success by putting books into their hands and encouraging them to read."
The program participants are Starbucks Coffee Company, ABC, Inc., USA TODAY, Disney Publishing, HarperCollins Children's Publishing, Scholastic Inc., Ingram Book Company, UPS, Host Marriott Services and Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
All Books for Children provides a simple and effective means of giving during the holidays. An individual can give a new book to Boys & Girls Clubs members by making a $3.00 donation at any Starbucks retail location. Donors will receive book plates that they may inscribe with their own messages. Each book plate will later be affixed to a book and given to a Boys & Girls Club child. Every penny of the donation will go to buying books for Boys & Girls Clubs children, with the participating companies absorbing all administrative costs.
