Dennis Lehane Pens Op-Ed About Boston Marathon Bombing

Bestselling author Dennis Lehane penned an impassioned Op-Ed piece for The New York Times today dealing with the Boston Marathon bombing.

Titled "Messing With the Wrong City, the essay discusses Lehane's love for Boston and the resilience of its residents. He writes, "But I do love this city. I love its atrocious accent, its inferiority complex in terms of New York, its nut-job drivers, the insane logic of its street system.... Bostonians don't love easy things, they love hard things — blizzards, the bleachers in Fenway Park, a good brawl over a contested parking space."

Lehane says the attitude is not "bring it on." It's more "this doesn't change anything." He notes, "Trust me, we won't be giving up any civil liberties to keep ourselves safe because of this. We won't cancel next year's marathon." He says when the authorities find the culprit, Bostonians will move on with their lives. But they won't allow attacks such as this to change them or make them fearful.

Lehane's most recent book is Live By Night.
