Iran's Bloggers Protest Censorship

Posted on September 22, 2004

Iran's strict censorship rules have enraged activists and reformers. But technology has come to the rescue. When Iran banned or shut down many websites which were critical of the current government, much of the content was moved to blogs, according to the BBC.

Now the government is threatening to censor the blogs, as well. One estimate puts the number of Iranian blogs at 10,000-15,000. And if the blogs are censored, the writers plan to start email subscription newsletters. So, kudos to the intrepid Iranian bloggers for their support of free speech and their bravery in continuing to support reforms in their country.
