Ziff Davis Smart Business for the New Economy, a national business magazine with over six million readers, has announced the appointment of Gordon Lee Jones as publisher. Most recently, Jones served as senior vice president/group publisher of Entrepreneur Media Inc., which was preceded by a five-year tenure as New York advertising director at Newsweek magazine.
``I have been very impressed with Ziff Davis Smart Business's vision and unique focus on business technology,'' said Jones. ``I am pleased to be coming on board at this important time in the publication's history, and to help build on the great momentum the magazine enjoys and expand on our position in the marketplace. Ziff Davis Smart Business is much more attentive than any other business publication to the need managers have for information and tools to help them grow and build their businesses.''
Jones was appointed to replace Greg Mason as publisher of the magazine, who left to pursue other interests. Jones will be based in New York and will report directly to Bill Flatley, executive vice president of Ziff Davis Media's consumer magazine group.
``We are delighted to have Lee join us,'' said Flatley. ``His strong business publishing background together with our award-winning editorial team is the perfect formula for success.''
Jones is the third publishing executive to join Ziff Davis Smart Business this month. Flatley was formerly vice president/associate publisher of Forbes. Geoffrey Precourt, former Time Inc. editor, also signed on this month as Ziff Davis Smart Business's new editor-in-chief.
