Xlibris Launches Full Color Picture Book Service

Posted on April 23, 2002

Xlibris, a provider of print-on-demand publishing services for authors, has announced a full color service for authors self-publishing books like children's picture books, cookbooks or graphic novels. The new technology was developed by Xlibris, in conjunction with Berryville Graphics, a U.S. hardcover and paperback book manufacturer.

"This is a major step for publishing," said Xlibris CEO John Feldcamp, "the ability to publish full color books on-demand changes the landscape of publishing and makes the market accessible to a whole new group of authors."

Xlibris is offering three different levels for its Picture Book Service including basic, pro and custom services with prices ranging from $999 for the basic service to $2,499 for the custom service. The main difference in the pricing is the number of images the author is including in his or her book. The more images used, the higher to cost to publish the picture book.

Xlibris is a publishing services company based in Philadelphia. The company reported that it printed more than 7,000 titles and sold over a quarter-million books in 2001. Competition for Xlibris includes rival epublishers as well as book printers and vanity presses. Random House, Inc. holds a significant minority stake in Xlibris through Random House Ventures, LLC, its venture capital division.
