Universal Television Signs Carrie Fisher to Comedy Development Deal

Acclaimed writer and actress Carrie Fisher has signed a multi-year comedy development deal with Universal Television, it was announced today by Universal Television President Ken Solomon. Fisher will develop and script comedy projects for the studio.

"Carrie has proven to be one of the most original voices in the entertainment industry. Her accomplishments as an actress, novelist and screenwriter are unparalleled. This diverse background gives her a unique perspective and ability to now bring fresh material to television. We couldn't be more pleased that Carrie has decided to bring her considerable talents to Universal Television," stated Solomon.

Fisher's talents range from actress to author, screenwriter, producer and script-doctor. She wrote the screenplay for the feature film "Postcards From the Edge," which was based on her best-selling novel. For "Postcards," Fisher won the Los Angeles Times PEN Award for best first novel. After completing the "Postcards" screenplay for Mike Nichols, she followed with "Surrender the Pink," her second novel for Simon and Shuster. Her latest novel is "Delusion of Grandma," and she is currently working on her fourth novel. Fisher is also well-known for her feature film script doctoring talents, which includes such films as "Lethal Weapon 3," "Sister Act," "Hook" and "Milk Money."

As an actress, Fisher is best known for her role as Princess Leia in the box office smash "Star Wars," and its two successful sequels, "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi." Fisher made her feature film debut in 1975 in "Shampoo." Her other feature film credits include "When Harry Met Sally"; "Soap Dish"; "Hannah and Her Sisters"; "The Blues Brothers"; "The Burbs"; "Garbo Talks"; and "The Man With One Red Shoe." Fisher most recently appeared in the film "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery."

Fisher's deal was negotiated by agent Richard Feldman of ICM and attorney Michael Gendler of Gendler, Codikow & Carroll.
