Three PointCast Newspaper Affiliates Extend Commitment

Posted on May 13, 1998

PointCast Incorporated announced that three of its premier affiliates have extended their commitment to PointCast. The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition and the Boston Globe have renewed their contracts to supply their local, national and international content to the PointCast Network for periods ranging from one to two years. As part of these new agreements, the three affiliates will expand and revamp their existing channels on the PointCast Network.

The PointCast Network is a news and information service that broadcasts content directly to the computer screens of more than one million active viewers. PointCast's affiliates are media companies, which deliver content through branded channels and derive revenue on advertising sales for the audience they attract. PointCast currently has 24 regional, national and special-interest media affiliates, including CNN, ZDNet, Time Warner's Pathfinder and Wired News.

"When our affiliates signed with us in 1996 and 1997, they believed in the promise of the Internet. Today they are renewing, because they believe in the potential of their franchises on PointCast," said Don Albert, vice president of strategic sales and affiliate development at PointCast. "Each of these affiliates has a large and loyal PointCast audience and a compelling advertising model that complements their website's advertising offerings."
