The Wilderness Society Launches Earth Day Website

"Earth Day was... one of the most remarkable happenings in the history of democracy," wrote American Heritage Magazine. Earth Day founder Gaylord Nelson explains how he conceived that remarkable happening in his audio message at The Wilderness Society's special Earth Day website.

Founded in 1935, The Wilderness Society works to protect America's wilderness and to develop a nation-wide network of wild lands through public education, scientific analysis and advocacy. The Society's goal is to ensure that future generations will enjoy the clean air and water, wildlife, beauty and opportunities for recreation and renewal that pristine forests, rivers, deserts and mountains provide. The Wilderness Society is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and has eight regional offices across the country.
