AvantGo Inc. and The Industry Standard have teamed up to deliver a Channel of news on the Internet Economy to business executives who rely on handheld computers. Published by IDG, The Industry Standard is a magazine written for executives responsible for Internet business strategy. With this relationship, IDG is taking advantage of what industry analysts are calling a new publishing trend enabled by AvantGo's software. The Industry Standard Channel is available at http://www.thestandard.com/portable.
"The Channels being developed for AvantGo foreshadow the route that the delivery of news will take in the near future," according to The Bulletin: Seybold News & Views on Electronic Publishing, dated August 5. "Both from marketing and technical perspectives, the creation of news channels for handheld devices warrants every publisher's attention."
"We are pleased to be teaming up with AvantGo because it allows us to put the information our corporate executive readers need, literally into the palm of their hands, anywhere, anytime," said John Battelle, president and publisher of The Industry Standard. "Our readers are constantly mobile and constantly connected, it just makes good business sense for us to team with AvantGo."
AvantGo software leverages Web technology so that companies can build, deploy and manage mobile applications on Palm Computing and soon Windows CE-compatible devices. Publishers' content is easy to access because mobile users choose the Web addresses or Channels they want to receive. Their specified Channels are then automatically updated each time the handheld device is synchronized.
