The Electronic Newsstand Opens Discount Magazine Store

Posted on September 10, 1997

The Electronic Newsstand, which launched in 1993 as a service for publishers, is expanding its focus to consumers with exclusive new features that let Internet shoppers search more than 3,000 magazines by topic, preview virtually any magazine title, and subscribe to their favorite periodicals.

A new partnership with American Family Publishers, the Jersey City, NJ-based discount-subscription powerhouse, will also let Electronic Newsstand offer the lowest guaranteed Internet prices on subscriptions to more than 350 top magazines, according to Brian Hecht, president and CEO of The Electronic Newsstand, Inc., the site's parent.

"Very simply, we want to be the Amazon.com of magazine subscriptions on the Web," Hecht said. "Our partnership with American Family Publishers and the rich environment we're offering shoppers are very strong first steps to taking us there."
