Telephony Magazine Launches Upstart
Posted on September 9, 1998
Today Telephony, published by PriMedia Intertec, has added Upstart, a new supplement to the magazine. Upstart is the voice of new carriers, including competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs), new long-distance carriers, Internet service providers (ISPs), personal communications service providers and service resellers. Released September 7, Upstart focuses on information for and about new carriers in the telecom marketplace. A second issue in 1998 will be published November 9, with frequency increasing to at least six times in 1999.
"Standard rules for success don't apply to new carriers. These competitive carriers require specific, strategic models for growth and change -- both in business strategies and service deployment," said Publisher Mark Hickey. "Upstart delivers new competitive carriers smart information for their fast-paced company culture. It is the definitive new voice for all new carriers."
Upstart aims to speak to the new players at new competitive carriers, and provide focused information for their competitive business culture. Upstart aims to deliver in-depth, focused coverage of the business strategies, operational practices, management trends, financing issues, cultural nuances and associated personalities that characterize the next generation of public network carriers.
The premier issue features the cover story "Born to Compete," analyzing the organizational qualities and operating strategies employed by successful new carriers. Editors examine different routes to success, determining whether common themes or strategies exist. It includes interviews with Upstarts and non-Upstarts that became industry competitors, with real-life examples of tactics that work.
