Sterling to Publish Books with DIY Network

Posted on January 3, 2005

Sterling Publishing Co., Inc. has announced a publishing deal with DIY Network to create and publish books bearing the DIY trademark. Under the terms of the partnership, Sterling and DIY will jointly create a book program of eight titles a year, beginning with two titles in Fall 2005. Topics will cover everything from home building and improvement, automotive, and boating, to crafts, gardening, hobbies, and woodworking. Book content will be created from DIY programming by its hosts, and from original content created by Sterling, for the DIY trademark.

"When we met with the team at DIY, we were thrilled to discover how well our content matched," said Charles Nurnberg, President and CEO of Sterling. "Their model of being the source for the best know-how and how-to when it comes to any type of do-it-yourself project is perfectly mirrored in our publishing program. We couldn't have asked for a more ideal fit between a publishing company and a television network, and we have no doubt that this partnership will create and produce a line of practical, beautifully illustrated, well-priced books for the consumer market."

DIY Network is a television network focusing on home improvement, automotive, boating, crafts, gardening, hobbies, living and woodworking. DIY also runs an online website with over 15,000 projects online. DIY is part of Scripps Networks, a division of the E.W. Scripps Company, whose other networks include Home & Garden Television, Food Network, Fine Living, Shop at Home and Great American Country.

Sterling Publishing Co., Inc. is a leading publisher of nonfiction titles with over 5,000 titles currently in print. Sterling Publishing is a subsidiary of Barnes & Noble, Inc.
