Sister Newspapers in Oregon Join Forces to Publish New Joint Sunday Edition
Posted on September 11, 1998
On September 13, a new Sunday paper, Mid-Valley Sunday, will be jointly published for the first time by the Corvallis Gazette-Times and the Albany Democrat-Herald newspapers after a year of planning. Current subscribers to the Democrat-Herald will receive Mid-Valley Sunday free for six weeks. Gazette-Times readers currently receive a Sunday edition
Veteran newspaper journalist Jim Murez is editor of Mid-Valley Sunday. Murez was hired especially for the new Sunday issue. Hasso Hering, editor of the Albany paper since 1979, will serve as executive editor of Mid-Valley Sunday.
Combined, the Corvallis and Albany newspapers have a circulation of 35,000 and employ nearly 200. Some 40,000 copies of Mid-Valley Sunday will be printed each week for subscribers and retail sales. By focusing the efforts of these employees on jointly producing an expanded Sunday newspaper, the company believes it can better serve its readers and advertisers.
