Seekbooks Launches Book Search Engine for Small Publishers
Posted on December 3, 1998
A small book promotion company in Southwest Florida has launched a new book search engine for small publishers. Seekbooks.com is a niche search engine devoted totally to books, offering small to mid-sized publishers and self-published authors an opportunity to add website listings.
"Seekbooks revolutionizes the way books are being distributed and sold," said Doug DeGroot, creator of the search engine and president of Book Promotion, Inc., an industry innovator in promoting self-published authors and their books. "By cutting out the costs of distribution, bricks and mortar, end-sellers, and the endless chain of middlemen, the Seekbooks system gives authors and publishers back 60 percent of their profit on each book."
"Book consumers don't realize that what they see in Barnes & Noble or on Amazon.com is only about 20 percent of the 60,000 books published each year," DeGroot said.
"The book industry has a severely broken system," DeGroot said. "The reader is really being denied access to about 80 percent of the books written out there. And the poor authors and small publishers, who've poured their hearts and souls and money into these books, which are often excellent pieces of literature, have no chance to compete.
Update: The Seekbooks site is no longer available.
