Science Fiction Series Perry Rhodan Returns to North America

Posted on August 14, 1997

Perry Rhodan will be published as a magazine. Initially it will run monthly, although it is anticipated that publication will eventually move to a weekly basis. A variety of consumer products will soon be available, including T-shirts, artwork, posters and CD-ROM games.

Perry Rhodan is a German science-fiction series, created by authors Walter Ernsting and K.H. Scheer. It has been published each week in Germany for 36 years. Published in a magazine format, each issue consists of a 60-page story, equivalent to about 120 manuscript pages. The genre is adventure science fiction.

Perry Rhodan once had a 10-year run in North America. It is also presently translated and published in Japan, France, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic. The North American reintroduction will start with recent issues.

Foyt said: ``We are very pleased to be reintroducing Perry Rhodan in North America. During the 18 years since Perry Rhodan was last published here, the science-fiction audience has grown enormously. Verlagsunion Pabel-Moewig (VPM), the German publisher, has given us a tremendous amount of support. We are confident that the series will be a success.''

Bernhard Maurer, managing director of Verlagsunion Pabel-Moewig, said: ``We are very proud to reintroduce Perry Rhodan in the U.S. and Canada. The world of Perry Rhodan is well known in Europe, especially in Germany. It is nearly unbelievable that we concentrated our efforts mostly on the European science-fiction inner circle while neglecting the biggest and most interesting market in the world.
