Posted on June 12, 1998
This weekend, Nickelodeon's Blue's Clues products, based on the television program, debut in FAO Schwarz, Learningsmith, Zany Brainy, Imaginarium, Noodle Kidoodle, and other specialty stores nationwide. Supported with a strong marketing and promotional program, the Blue's Clues merchandise launch is timed with the network's primetime telecast of Blue's Birthday, a birthday celebration for the animated blue puppy and the show.
Nickelodeon is rolling out the blue carpet for Blue's Birthday, beginning with a special celebration at FAO Schwarz's store on Fifth Avenue in New York City on Saturday, June 13. Blue's Clues host Steve Burns will appear along with Blue at the Blue-fest, which will also feature such activities as face painting and balloon sculptures. The store will also make available limited-edition Blue's Clues plush signed by Steve Burns to the first 200 customers. FAO Schwarz will have Blue's Clues boutiques in their top 5 flagship stores including New York City. Other specialty stores will also feature special Blue's Clues product displays supported with advertising and in-store events throughout the country.
Books from Simon Spotlight and Landoll's, Inc., along with videos from Paramount are currently available in the mass market. Additional Blue's Clues merchandise, including CD-ROMs (Humongous Entertainment), books (Simon Spotlight), soft toys (Tyco Preschool), and more will also be available in mass market stores beginning September 1998 with line extensions readying for spring 1999.
Set in a computer-generated storybook animation world, Blue's Clues revolves around the adventures of an animated little girl puppy, "Blue," and her friend, Steve, the show's live action host. In each episode, preschoolers are challenged to figure out what "Blue" needs by collecting the clues she leaves and putting them together to figure out the answer. Blue's Clues airs weekdays at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. (E/T) in Nick Jr., the network's preschool programming block.
