Prize-Winning Authors to Speak at SJSU

Noted author Carol Shields, the recipient of the 1995 Pulitzer Prize for her novel, "The Stone Diaries," will appear at San Jose State University on Monday, Oct. 6.
The event is part of the Major Authors Series presented by SJSU's Center for Literary Arts in affiliation with the College of the Humanities and the Arts. Admission is free for all events. No advance reservations are required.
At 12:30 p.m. Shields will lead a conversation about her life and work. Spartan Memorial Chapel. -- At 7:30 p.m. Shields will read from her new novel "Larry's Party." Engineering Building Auditorium (near Seventh Street and San Fernando).
C.K. Williams, the internationally acclaimed, award-winning poet, will discuss and read from his works, including excerpts from the 1997 Pulitzer Prize finalist "The Vigil," on Thursday, Oct. 16. Williams appears as part of the Poets In Residence Series presented by SJSU's Center for Literary Arts in affiliation with the College of the Humanities and the Arts. -- At 12:30 p.m. Williams will lead a conversation about his poetry. Spartan Memorial Chapel. -- At 7:30 p.m. Williams will read from his works. Washington Square Hall, 109 (on Fourth Street near San Carlos).
