Private Donors Save Women's Prize for Fiction, Formerly Known as Orange Prize

Posted on October 9, 2012

The Orange Prize for Fiction is now known as the Women's Prize for Fiction. 2012 was the end of Orange's sponsorship of the annual women's fiction prize, which carries a £30,000 prize (about $38,000 U.S.). Orange is a French telecommunications brand.

The Guardian reports that prize was saved by high-profile donors including Charie Blair, Martha Lane Fox and novelist Joanna Trollope.

Novelist and playwright Kate Mosse, co-founder and chair of the Women's Prize for Fiction, told the Guardian, "We were blown away by the generosity of people we approached to see us through this first year."

Update: Information about the prize can now be found at womensprizeforfiction.co.uk.
