Posted on August 24, 1998

Raymond E. Maloney, president and chief executive officer of PriMedia Intertec, the technical and trade magazine division of PriMedia Inc., announced that Building Materials International (BMI) will launch in January 1999. The magazine will make its debut at the BAU trade show in Munich, Germany, Jan. 19-24, 1999.

The global construction market is estimated at US$1.5 trillion annually, with the building and construction materials sector accounting for US$600 billion. BMI will cover the complete global building and construction materials market and will provide information on the latest building materials technology, new products and techniques, safety and environmental topics, as well as analysis of the world building materials market.

"The increasing globalization of the building and construction industry has generated a huge demand for quality information on the latest materials, products and services, as well as advances in the way these products are used," said Maloney. "BMI marks PriMedia Intertec's first global magazine launch through its new product development program."

BMI will target contractors, architects, engineers, specifiers, government officials and agents, and other professionals involved with the purchase of building materials and associated services. BMI is being published by the PriMedia Intertec Mining & Construction Group within the Industrial Group. The magazine will complement PriMedia Intertec's International Construction, which serves the global construction industry with a concentration on plant and equipment. Peter Beckett, publisher of International Construction, will also head up BMI. Steve Burdett, a magazine veteran in the construction industry, will be editor of the new publication.
