William F. Reilly, Chairman and CEO of Primedia Inc. announced that Primedia has acquired the assets of Lapidary Journal, Inc., publisher of the 50 year-old Lapidary Journal, and Colored Stone magazine.

According to Reilly, "This acquisition is the perfect example of Primedia's strategy of acquiring niche publications into our Specialty Magazine Group." Lapidary Journal, published in Devon, PA, is the premier source of information for 60,000 amateur and professional jewelry artisans, bead enthusiasts, gem cutters and carvers, jewelers and mineral and fossil collectors.

Lapidary Journal Online was recently launched, providing internet users with editorial content, a searchable database of suppliers, electronic bulletin boards and classified advertising.

Colored Stone magazine is a bi-monthly news magazine for the colored gemstone trade. Colored Stone's 10,400 subscribers are importers and exporters of colored stones, jewelry designers and manufacturers and other professionals who rely on Colored Stone for news that affects the availability and pricing of colored gemstones on the world market. Advertisers include suppliers of rough and finished gemstones and gemstone jewelry.

Lapidary Journal and Colored Stone will be part of Primedia's Special Interest Publications, which includes titles such as Crafts, Sew News, Dog World and Horticulture.
