PressCorps to Relaunch and Manage TennisMatch Magazine

Posted on August 5, 1997

PressCorps, a New York City-based magazine company, has been retained by TennisMatch, Inc. to manage TennisMatch, the 4-year old national bi-monthly magazine covering the game.

PressCorps will handle an editorial re-think and graphic re-design of TennisMatch to be introduced next month, and will manage the magazine's circulation, sales and finances. PressCorps President, George Slowik, Jr., announced the deal today with Jeff Williams, Publisher of TennisMatch.

Founded by publishing veterans Slowik, Richard Perez-Feria and Gordon Duncan, PressCorps is an independent magazine publishing company. TennisMatch joins several titles under PressCorps' direction, including American Druggist and City Family/La Familia de la Ciudad. This fall, PressCorps will unveil its first self-launched title mike, a magazine focusing on the world's most famous and fascinating music personalities.

Beginning with the September/October issue, on newsstands August 13, TennisMatch's choice of cover stories will signal its renewed mission: a focus on "the story behind the story," according to PressCorps' Editorial Director Richard Perez-Feria. By turning the spotlight on personalities, TennisMatch's new format will introduce a completely new category of magazine into sports magazine publishing, he said.

"PressCorps is turning TennisMatch into a great magazine by combining the rich photography seen in Sports Illustrated with the cool insider information of an InStyle," Perez-Feria said. "We want to give the magazine's readers a stylish new look with a lot more information on the people who make tennis so hot."

TennisMatch's Williams agreed. "We retained PressCorps because they're widely known for their creative campaigns in all aspects of magazine development," he said. "We can't wait to show off TennisMatch's new face at the Open."

PressCorps will time the re-design to appear for distribution at the U.S. Open, being held August 25 to September 7 in the new Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadow, New York.
