American Lawyer Media, Inc. (ALM) announced that William L. Pollak, President & CEO of ALM, has been named to the additional post of Publisher for the New York Law Journal. He succeeds James A. Finkelstein, who will continue as a Director of ALM, the Law Journal's parent company. The Law Journal was founded in 1888.

Pollak, 42, was named CEO of ALM in March, 1998 and also serves as a Director of the company. He joined ALM following a 15-year career at The New York Times, most recently as Executive Vice President for the newspaper. While at The Times, he held a variety of marketing, advertising and circulation positions. Pollak is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School.

Finkelstein has served as publisher of the New York Law Journal since 1988 and also founded the National Law Journal weekly in 1978. Both publications were acquired by ALM as part of its purchase of The National Law Publishing Company in December, 1997. Finkelstein and Boston Ventures, former co-owners of The National Law Publishing Company, intend to team up to acquire and manage major communications companies.
