PlanetOut Launches Lesbian and Gay Travel Site

Posted on June 2, 1998

PlanetOut launched PlanetOut Travel, an online travel service designed expressly for gay and lesbian travelers. The new area, available at www.planetout.com or America Online Keyword: PlanetOut, incorporates the content of Over The Rainbow, a travel site acquired in a private transaction from Remy Publishing, publisher of Passport, an upscale travel newsletter. Over the Rainbow opened on America Online two years ago, and on the web last November.

David Murray, the editor behind the creation of Over The Rainbow, will serve as Producer and Editor of PlanetOut Travel. Murray has 35 years experience in publishing, four years of it in the travel field. Among his previous publishing ventures, he was editor and publisher of Real Estate Today, an award-winning trade magazine.

Murray holds a B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.A. in English Literature from Northwestern University. He lives in Chicago with his partner of nine years, and has two grown children. "Over the Rainbow was created to make travel more predictable and more fun for gay men and lesbians," Murray said.
