Patrick Oster Named Editor in Chief of The National Law Journal

American Lawyer Media, Inc. (ALM) has announced the appointment of Patrick Oster as editor in chief of The National Law Journal. Oster joined the paper in 1996 as managing editor and has served as acting editor of The National Law Journal for the past six months.

Oster's career in journalism has included experience at some of the nation's leading newspapers and publications. He spent 10 years in Washington, first as the legal affairs editor of U.S. News & World Report, and then as the Washington bureau chief of the Chicago Sun Times. On the international front, Oster served as Mexico City bureau chief for Knight-Ridder newspapers and was a correspondent in Brussels for Business Week. Upon returning to the U.S., Oster assisted in the redesign of The Bakersfield Californian before joining The National Law Journal as managing editor.

Oster is the author of The Mexicans, published by William Morrow and in paperback by Harper Collins. A graduate of Cornell Law School, he has been the recipient of three ABA Silver Gavel awards, the nation's leading legal journalism prize.

With a readership of more than 160,000, The National Law Journal is the nation's largest legal newspaper. Its editorial mix includes reports on breaking legal news; special reports on corporate, criminal, intellectual property and bankruptcy law; in-depth coverage of management and other law practice issues; and focused business law coverage for corporate legal staffs.
