OTC Medicine Association Launches Website

Posted on February 16, 1998

Consumers, health care professionals, public policy officials, the media and others can now access these facts and the latest information on OTC medicines from a new Internet web site launched by the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association (NDMA). NDMA members -- manufacturers and distributors of OTC medicines -- account for 95 percent of OTC sales in the United States.

The site includes information, perspective and background on a wide range of issues involving self-care with nonprescription medicines, including regulatory and legislative initiatives, the process of transferring medicines from prescription to nonprescription status (Rx-to-OTC switch), product labeling, consumer trends and industry self-regulation.

"We're pleased to be able to offer this wealth of information over the Internet," said Joseph K. Doss, NDMA senior vice president and director of public affairs. "Safe and effective OTC medicines are a critical and economical component of consumer health care. This web site will help people the world over gain access to accurate and timely information that helps them better understand the role of self-medication."

Late-breaking news affecting OTC medicines appears in the web site area known as "What's New." This area will be updated with NDMA news releases and position statements as warranted. Visitors to the site will also find the most recent issues of NDMA’s Executive Newsletter. Published every other week, the Newsletter is a primary source of news and information about the OTC drug industry.

Note: The website mentioned above is no longer working and the link has been removed. The NDMA is now known as the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, which has a website at: chpa.org.
