Posted on October 1, 1998

NTC/Contemporary Publishing Group, a Tribune Education company, announced the acquisition of Peter Bedrick Books, a privately held publisher of illustrated non-fiction children's titles that are sold primarily to school and public libraries. Peter Bedrick Books, founded in 1983, publishes approximately 25 new books per year and has an active backlist of 150 titles in the subject categories of history, mythology, art and science. Most of the titles are published in series such as the Masters of Art Series, What Do We Know About...? and World Mythology.

"This acquisition strengthens NTC/Contemporary's presence in the library market and will provide additional high-quality titles that we can reposition for classroom use and for bookstores in paperback format," Mark R. Pattis, president and CEO of NTC/Contemporary, said. "Titles published by Peter Bedrick Books consistently receive excellent reviews and are highly recommended by schools, libraries and nationally recognized media."

Company founder Peter Bedrick and his wife, Muriel, will continue building Peter Bedrick Books from the company's New York City location and will assist in the expansion of NTC/Contemporary's library activities. "NTC/Contemporary is committed to the expansion of our list along the lines we have established, and I'm delighted to join forces with such an aggressive and fast-growing firm," Bedrick said.
