Nova Announces Weekly Brain-Game

Posted on November 5, 1998

NOVA Online, the award-winning companion site to the weekly television science series on PBS, is inviting viewers to test their science smarts by taking The NOVA Challenge. The NOVA Challenge is a head-scratching brain teaser, based on the weekly NOVA broadcast. Each new Challenge will test web site visitor's knowledge of science and their powers of observation, while preparing them for The NOVA Ultimate Challenge, from April 25 to May 1, 1999.

This week's question, based on the current NOVA broadcast of "Special Effects Titanic and Beyond", asks visitors to outfit Gus DiWeather by choosing the best tie to wear against the backdrop of his weathermap a visual dilemma that's funny, engaging, and whose answer may surprise.

In The NOVA Ultimate Challenge, NOVA Online visitors from around the country will be faced with twenty-five questions drawn from the entire current season of NOVA programs and NOVA Online sites. They don't have to participate in the weekly Challenge to be eligible but the practice may give them a step up on the competition. There will be prizes for both schools and individual contestants. Details will be announced in the spring, and in the meantime, visitors are encouraged to hone their skills by watching NOVA and taking the weekly Challenge.
