New Website for Parents About California Schools Debuts

Posted on July 1, 1998

School Wise Press aims to help parents become better informed about California schools with a new website. The site currently ranks schools in over a dozen categories within each of California's 58 counties. The site also offers a free library of resources, hot topics, a summary of school-related newspaper stories from around the state, an "Ask the Expert" column about California school rules, and a humor area.

Steve Rees, the editor and publisher of School Wise Press, intends to help California parents get school-smart. He and his staff have created original content for the site. The editors have also selected the best available news stories, feature articles and books about schools, all chosen for their relevance to parents.

Rees explained, "It used to be accepted that only educators knew where to find facts about schools. We want to take this insider's knowledge, strip away the jargon, and deliver it to parents. Why shouldn't parents have the benefit of the same tools, the same information?"

The site offers several information services for sale online. The first is a book catalog, which features books about schools accompanied by short reviews. The second is a school profile report, a four-page description and analysis of a school's student body, its faculty, key ratios, and resources. School profiles will be available July 15, and will be priced at $6 per report.

School Wise Press is an imprint of Publishing 20/20. It is also the publisher of regional guidebooks to public schools and "how-to" books for parents.
