New Scientist Planet Science Links Up with Mars
Posted on July 17, 1997
New Scientist Planet Science, the web site of New Scientist magazine, now has a live audio and video link-up with NASA following Pathfinder's landing on Mars.
This link-up enhances the existing 'Mars' section on the site, which gives news and analysis of the Pathfinder mission as reported by New Scientist's award-winning editorial team. The section also provides extensive background on NASA's claim to have discovered life on Mars last year, the search for intelligent life in the Universe, plus a selection of web links.
Visitors to New Scientist Planet Science - one of only two UK-based sites offering this live feed - will be able to see video provided by NASA's Select TV Channel. They should be able to see live views of the surface of Mars as they are broadcast by the probe and listen in to the control room. Even modem-using net surfers should be able to enjoy the view as long as they are using Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3 or better.
David Brake, Net editor of New Scientist Planet Science, says in a statement, "New Scientist has always brought the public the latest science news. Now thanks to the power of the Internet and cutting edge software we are proud to bring them the latest from Mars as it happens, whenever they want it."
