Book-of-the-Month Club, Inc., a subsidiary of Time Warner Inc., announced today that it has opened a web site at www.bomc.com, the club's first new channel of distribution in 71 years. During a six-month beta testing phase of the Book-of-the-Month Club website, nearly 1,100 new members joined online.
"The Book-of-the-Month Club website maintains the appeal of a small bookstore, where the owner knows who you are and when you walk in and say, 'I'd like something to read this weekend,' he says, 'Here's the book for you.'" Greg Tobin, Editor-in-Chief, Book-of-the-Month Club
Book-of-the-Month Club provides members with quick delivery of 2,400 reviewed books which survive an editorial review process by the club's editors. Discounts of up to 60% are offered and new online members will be able to purchase four books for $1. Members will also have access to a searchable author/subject/title/keyword database, an online book discussion group, book reviews and excerpts, and author notes and profiles.
"We believe the value and success of the Book-of-the-Month is that our editors select only the best books available and present them to the public. Let us guide you through the maze of books available on the web," said Greg Tobin, Editor-in-Chief of The Book-of-the-Month Club.
Book-of-the-Month Club was founded in 1926, with 4,750 members, to bring the best new and classic books to readers throughout the United States. Book-of-the-Month Club, Inc. operates nine book clubs and two continuity programs. Cumulative membership in the clubs is more than 3.5 million. In 1996, which was a record year, the club distributed over 40 million books to members in the U.S. and more than 60 countries worldwide.
