Museum of London Launches New Website
Posted on June 26, 1997
The Museum of London, the largest city museum in the world, has been brought up to date by setting up an Internet site to enhance its services to visitors to the Museum. Launched on Friday June 20th, the Museum aims to help visitors experience the long and fascinating history of the capital and encourage them to visit the Museum itself.
The web site's main 'galleries' show some of the various aspects of historical London life from the horror of the Great Plague through the splendour of the Lord Mayor's Coach to the Museum of London's magnificent current exhibition In Royal Fashion, which comprises the dresses and accessories of Princess Charlotte of Wales and her cousin Queen Victoria. The launch date of the web site has been timed to coincide with the anniversary of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.
Using an easy-to-navigate interface, the site allows any visitor to get more detail on many of the exhibits available as well as being able to contact the Museum directly via an on site form. Also provided is an interactive map showing exactly how to get to the Museum, details on special events and a two month daily diary listing of talks, workshops and performances allowing people to plan their visit in advance.
The site also includes a full list of the additional services the Museum of London provides to the academic and business communities. These include the picture library, education services, membership services and the hire of museum facilities for functions. Visitors can also take advantage of the special two-people-for-the-price-of-one admission offer.
