Money Magazine Gets New Look

Posted on September 10, 1998

A new redesign has been unveiled by Money magazine. Money has a circulation rate base of 1.9 million and total readership of 8.5 million, according to the latest MRI audience survey.

The personal-finance monthly's October issue, which hits newsstands Sept. 14, caps an eight-month makeover led by Money managing editor Robert Safian. Since the start of the year, Money has augmented its roster of veteran writers like Loeb Award finalist Jason Zweig and markets expert Michael Sivy with several new high-profile journalists including Joseph Nocera, John Helyar (co-author of Barbarians at the Gate), James Grant and Jean Sherman Chatzky.

In the issue's cover story by contributing writer Andrew Serwer conducts interviews with 10 of the world's most accomplished investors, including mutual fund legend Peter Lynch, Citicorp lead shareholder Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal of Saudi Arabia and Wall Street guru Abby Joseph Cohen. The design changes, overseen by Money art director Syndi Becker and executed by magazine designers Milton Glaser and Walter Bernard, introduce new type faces, a more open look, and visual clues that aim to make the information within the articles more accessible for readers.

"We're very excited about the way our new design complements and enhances the top-quality journalism that Money delivers," said Safian. "Money has always been the best and biggest in its category, and this new look reflects that status."
