MIT Launches New Magazine Of Innovation
Posted on April 22, 1998
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology announced the relaunch of Technology Review, "the oldest continually published technology magazine in the country," as Technology Review (TR): MIT's Magazine of Innovation. As it approaches its 100th year, TR has recreated itself. Beginning with the May/June issue, the magazine will be inform readers about cutting edge developments in areas ranging from infotech to biotech to nanotech.
As Publisher and CEO Bruce Journey notes, "There were only two options for this magazine: change dramatically or cease to exist." While highly regarded by its readers, the magazine was not commercially viable. The TR Board of Directors agreed that the publication needed to be restructured to attract more paying subscribers and advertising revenue. "Sweeping change was necessary," explains Journey.
In celebration of the rebirth of TR, MIT will present a panel on "Innovation in America," on Thursday, April 23 at 4 p.m. Hosted by Economist Richard Lester, the panel includes: Bob Metcalfe, Inventor of Ethernet and 3COM Founder; John Seely Brown, Director of Xerox PARC; James Vincent, Chairman of the Board of Biogen; Michael Dertouzos, Director of MIT's Lab for Computer Science and Bill Technology Review/3 Helman, Partner, Greylock Management Company. Following the panel, Technology Review: MIT's Magazine of Innovation will be formally unveiled and guests will attend a gala cocktail reception.
