Variety reports that Anonymous Contest has purchased he rights to Dana Vachon's first novel, Mergers & Acquistions for a rumored high six figures.
Anonymous won out after a heated eight-way bidding war among publishing houses. Mark Poirer will write the screen adaptation, while Steve Golin ("Babel," "Being John Malkovich") will produce along with Shawn Simon and Matt DeRoss. Agent David Kuhn at Kuhn Projects sold the book to publishers, and Justin Manask at IPG repped film rights.Vachon left his own budding financial career behind to be a writer and he is cuurently being toasted as a cross between Jay McInerney (Bright Lights, Big City) and Bret Easton Ellis (Less Than Zero). A movie sale is just part of the package, but some are wondering if the sales will stand up to all the hype. The much-hyped novel, set to hit shelves Thursday, has been described as this decade's "Bright Lights, Big City." The former investment banker's novel centers on Wall Street's fast-moving upper social and financial reaches. Early buzz has drawn comparisons to Tom Wolfe's "The Bonfire of the Vanities," Lauren Weisberger's "The Devil Wears Prada" and Candace Bushnell's "Sex and The City" and "Lipstick Jungle."
