Luckman Launches Free Online Guide to the Best of the Web
Posted on February 2, 1998
Luckman Interactive, Inc. announced Best of the Web, a free online directory based on the company's #1 best-selling books, "Best of the Web" and "1998 World Wide Web Yellow Pages." Best of the Web offers a quick and easy way to find truly useful content on the Web. The directory contains ratings and reviews of 25,000 4- and 5-star web sites and allows users to find the best sites on the Web with just three mouse clicks.
The final 25,000 sites were selected from over 150,000 sites reviewed by Luckman's staff of editors. The editors, all specialists in their respective category areas, selected only the highest rated sites for inclusion in the guide. Each entry includes a description of the site, an image of the home page and a list of the site's unique features.
Best of the Web offers 18 general categories: Art, Business, Computers, Education, Entertainment, Family, Government, Interests, Health, Humanities, Internet, Music, News, Regions, Science, Shopping, Sports and Travel. These categories are further divided into 425 secondary categories for quick reference. Selecting one of these categories displays a list of sites for that topic.
A search engine on Best of the Web helps locate reviewed sites, and the entries are fully cross-referenced to make it easier to find other related sites. The company plans to add PICS ratings to the database in a future release.
