Lightning Print and toExcel Offer Book-at-a-Time Service

Posted on November 11, 1998

Lightning Print Inc. (LPI), a subsidiary of Ingram Industries, and toExcel, a strategic unit of Kaleidoscope Software Inc., have announced a partnership which makes it possible for publishers to produce, market and distribute books one at a time. The new partnership links toExcel's pre-press technology and Internet marketing services with LPIs on demand printing and distribution services.

"We are pleased to be standing with LPI at the forefront of this exciting new paradigm of publishing," stated toExcel Founder and President, Richard Tam, from his San Jose corporate headquarters. "Through our partnership with LPI, we've created a winning, full-service platform whereby anybody can be a publisher. Even small independent publishers and aspiring authors can now profitably publish and market short-run titles."

"At the same time," Tam went on to explain, "traditional publishers have a new opportunity for their out-of-print, out-of-stock and low-demand titles. We've struck a very positive chord by helping publishers lower economic risks while opening additional revenue streams."

"Any book can now be made available through toExcel's offering and LPI's print and distribution services," explained Larry Brewster, General Manager of Lightning Print Inc. "This concept opens a whole new world for the author, the publisher and the reader."
