L.A. Confidential Receives Top Honors at Chicago Film Festival

In a precedent-setting sweep of all the major film critics' associations in the United States, "L.A. Confidential" was named Best Picture at the Chicago Film Critics' Awards. In addition, the film collected Best Director and Best Screenplay awards from the group, making it the first motion picture ever to be so universally acclaimed.
The awards were presented at Chicago's Park West theater. Upon receiving them, producer/director and co-screenwriter Curtis Hanson said, "This extraordinary response from the critics has been especially gratifying because, for me and many of my collaborators, 'L.A. Confidential' was truly a labor of love."
Regency Enterprises Presents An Arnon Milchan/David L. Wolper Production: "L.A. Confidential," starring Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, James Cromwell and David Strathairn, with Kim Basinger and Danny DeVito. The music is by Jerry Goldsmith; the costumes are designed by Ruth Myers; and the co-producer is Brian Helgeland. The film is edited by Peter Honess, A.C.E.; the production designer is Jeannine Oppewall and the director of photography is Dante Spinotti, A.I.C. The executive producers are David L. Wolper and Dan Kolsrud. "L.A. Confidential" is based on the novel by James Ellroy and has a screenplay by Brian Helgeland & Curtis Hanson. It is produced by Arnon Milchan, Curtis Hanson and Michael Nathanson, and directed by Curtis Hanson. Distributed by Warner Bros., A Time Warner Entertainment Company.
