Krause Publications Launches Collectit.net

Posted on November 2, 1998

Krause's new online auction service, Collectit.net, brings buyers and sellers of collectible items together. Collectit.net is a collaboration between Krause Publications, a major publisher of hobby books and periodicals, and OpenSite Technologies, Inc., a leader in online auction solutions.

The auction site, which is part of Krause Publications' growing commerce and collector site, officially launched November 1. The auctions are live and interactive, with updates performed in real time so bidders can follow each auction, and participants can search the histories of sellers before bidding.

"Collectit.net continues Krause Publications' tradition of bringing together buyers and sellers of collectibles," says Roger Case, Krause executive vice president. "The same principles that made Krause's printed products the leaders in their respective fields will now be extended to the electronic world through the collectit.net auction service. We wanted to work with a technology vendor that could help us maintain the tradition and reputation we have worked so hard for, and OpenSite has done that and more."

Krause publishes 36 periodicals that cover such fields as antiques, limited-edition collectibles, coins and paper money, toys, comics, music, sports cards and memorabilia, stamps, collector cars, firearms, and knives. The company also publishes magazines and books for crafting and sewing hobbyists, and hunting and fishing enthusiasts.
