John Squires Named President of Entertainment Weekly

John Squires has been named president of Entertainment Weekly, it was announced today by Don Logan, chairman and CEO of Time Inc.

Squires, 40, senior vice president of consumer marketing for Time Inc., succeeds Michael Klingensmith, 45, who was named president of Sports Illustrated last week. As head of consumer marketing, Squires ran the magazine division's direct marketing activities, including promotion, consumer research, multi-title marketing, and media buying. He was also responsible for the management of Time Distribution Services (TDS) and Warner Publisher Services (WPS). His senior management responsibilities included the supervision of Time Inc.'s corporate data base, which contains the millions of names and profiles of customers from the company's various magazine and book units.

A native of Pocatello, Idaho, and a graduate of the University of Washington, Squires joined Time Inc. in 1989 as Assistant Circulation Director of People. His next assignment was at Entertainment Weekly as Consumer Marketing Director during a crucial period in the magazine's development. In 1993 he went to Sports Illustrated as vice president of consumer marketing. He was appointed senior vice president of consumer marketing for Time Inc. in July 1996. Prior to joining Time Inc., Squires held senior circulation positions at a number of different magazines, including Forbes and American Heritage.
