John Schueler Named Publisher at Star Tribune in Minneapolis

John R. Schueler, a 27-year newspaper veteran, was named publisher of the Star Tribune, a McClatchy newspaper serving the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul. He succeeds Joel Kramer, who is following through on long-standing plans to pursue interests outside the newspaper industry.

Schueler comes to the Star Tribune from his position as president and chief operating officer at the Orange County Register (Calif.). Schueler held key leadership positions with newspapers in Detroit, Atlanta, Miami and New England before moving to Southern California in l991. He will assume his responsibilities as publisher at the Star Tribune in mid-May.

The McClatchy Company publishes 11 daily and 13 non-daily newspapers located in western coastal states, the Carolinas and Minnesota. Those newspapers include, among others, the Star Tribune, The Sacramento Bee, The News & Observer (Raleigh, N.C.), The Fresno Bee, The News Tribune (Tacoma, Wash.) and the Anchorage Daily News. McClatchy also owns other media-related businesses, including Nando.net and The Newspaper Network.
