Jenga Consulting Launches SchoolMag

Posted on August 20, 1997

Jenga Consulting Inc., a Microsoft Solution Provider (MSP) located in Oakland, has created "SchoolMag," an on-line magazine for high school students.

Sybil Robinson, vice president of marketing for Jenga Consulting Inc. says that creating the educational software curriculum was an integral component in Jenga's corporate philosophy. "Our vision is to build a market-savvy organization that has the capability to rapidly adopt new technologies to satisfy the changing needs of the educational software marketplace."

According to Robinson, educators are increasingly struggling to find ways to keep up with their students' advancements in and acceptance of technology. Some students move faster than their teacher's ability to keep up, while other students are not motivated by the traditional teaching methods. "The 'SchoolMag' product addresses those concerns. It allows the students to submit their articles, then have their teacher review, edit, and ultimately publish the submitted article in the on-line magazine," said Robinson.

The goal of the "SchoolMag" product is: to motivate students to excel in high school, to make technology, math, and science fun, to learn about entrepreneurship, to increase self-esteem, and to encourage involvement in the high school's neighboring community.

"'SchoolMag' provides a unique combination of writing, interviewing, and computer skills. Students write about topics that they are interested in and are excited about, while learning about Web publishing. They become the producers of information, rather than the passive consumers," said Robinson.

Joseph Robinson, president of Jenga Consulting Inc., added, "We work with the teachers at your school and incorporate our curriculum into your existing class structure. The end result is that students are publishing articles in a technology based learning environment. We foresee the site becoming the premiere location for young people, their parents, and for people interested in the views of young adults."

Jenga Consulting Inc. plans to market the product to high schools and school districts throughout the United States. Each high school's magazine will be hosted on the schoolmag.org website.
