Inmedia To Launch Where's Waldo Website

Posted on August 12, 1997

Set to debut the week of August 18, 1997, Where's Waldo? on the Web will feature Waldo's epic "search-and-find" landscapes, trivia and online games, a daily Waldo Web strip, free downloads of Waldo clip art and animations, chat rooms, and even an art museum highlighting the works of Waldo creator Martin Handford.

Upon its launch, visitors will be able to play Where's Waldo? on the Web, via clues on sponsors' pages, to win daily prizes and qualify for a grand prize drawing.

Gail Smith, principal and cofounder of inmedia, inc., says in a statement, "We are honored to be the technology company that will introduce Waldo to the Internet. Where's Waldo? and the Web are a natural combination because both involve searching for and finding what you are looking for in a complex environment. Our goal with the Web site is to offer dynamic, interactive content that kids of all ages will enjoy each time they visit."

Where's Waldo? books have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and are published in 20 languages. The syndicated Where's Waldo? comic strip has been published weekly for four years in more than 100 newspapers.

The website that launched in 1997 was findwaldo.com. The U.S. website is now whereswaldo.com.
