Industry Standard Names Eric Savitz as Executive Editor

IDG's The Industry Standard, a newsmagazine of the Internet Economy, has announced the appointment of Eric Savitz, formerly the west coast editor of Barron's, as its executive editor. The publication also expanded its editorial team with the addition of Jackie Cohen to its senior editorial staff.

"Having someone with Eric's expertise and reputation on our editorial team enables us to deepen our coverage of the technology marketplace, fortifying our position as the number one source of information about the people, the companies and the business models shaping the Internet Economy," said John Battelle, president and publisher of The Industry Standard. "In addition, Jackie's strong background in online commerce and finance will strengthen our coverage in those areas."

As Executive Editor, Mr. Savitz will be responsible for the day-to-day management of editorial content for The Industry Standard's weekly newsmagazine and its online component, TheStandard.com. He will report to Jonathan Weber, editor in chief of The Industry Standard.

For nearly 15 years, Mr. Savitz worked in a variety of positions for the Dow Jones Corporation: In the late 80s, he was as a copy editor and reporter covering technology and investing; from 1998 -- 1995, he was a staff writer and Mutual Funds editor for Barron's; in October 1995, Mr. Savitz became Barron's Mutual Funds west coast editor, located at the Northern California bureau he founded. There he focused on technology companies concentrated in Silicon Valley, and wrote a semi-weekly column on technology investing called "Plugged In." Mr. Savitz attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his B.A. in Economics in December 1983.

As Senior Editor, Ms. Cohen brings expertise in the areas of electronic commerce and online financial services to The Industry Standard. She will also manage and contribute to the magazine's Special Reports series. Prior to joining, Ms. Cohen was the editor of Bank Technology News International, and managing editor of Bank Technology News in New York City.
